Books often teach us about life and indulge us in thoughts that can transform our lives. The books listed below are not new releases but are noteworthy and have taught me important lessons in life. The two earthy people chosen by Father Time are very different characters going through difficult journeys.

#1Takeaway: The major theme as you may have realised by now in the book is time. Time Keeper is a book that will change your perspective on how you view and utilise your own time. As always, Mitch Albom books have stories that keep the reader wanting more which will make this novel short and easy to read. I would also recommend picking up other books written by Mitch Albom as they revolve around themes that are truly crucial to learn in life.

 

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

#2Book Summary: The Alchemist is a story about a young shepherd boy who is on a quest for treasure to realise his ‘personal legend’. During this journey, he faces many obstacles through which he learns lessons that show him to always follow his heart. The quest to obtain his treasure takes him on an adventure that is so thrilling to read. The narrative by Paulo Coelho makes you will feel like you are alongside the main characters throughout his adventurous quest.

#2Takeaway: The theme of the book is always to follow your heart and pursue your dreams irrespective of the obstacle you face. Sometimes these obstacles maybe so vast and insurmountable but you need to draw strength from your heart to attain them. Is a life without pursuing your true quest even worth living?

 

The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Miguel Ruiz

#3Book Summary: The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz brings to light the source of our self-limiting beliefs that remain as obstacles to living a joyful life. The Four Agreements are agreements that the author urges the reader to make with oneself to obtain personal freedom.

#3Takeaway: The agreements include: Be Impeccable With Your Word, Don’t Take Anything Personally, Don’t Make Assumptions and Always Do Your Best.

 

Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

#4Book Summary: Randy Pausch a computer science professor at Carnegie Melon University is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Pausch is told by his doctors told that he has only a few months to live. So he sets out to write his “last lecture” to his students at the university. This book entails all the lessons and teachings he wanted his children to learn and all his childhood stories he wanted them to know.

#4Takeaway: Randy encourages everyone always to have fun and live to the fullest. Life is so precious and one never knows when it might be taken. I can re-read this book a million times because it is so heartfelt and meaningful in its narrative.

 

The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma

#5Book Summary: This list would not be complete if I didn’t mention The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari as it is a fable that will make you rethink your goals, discover your destiny and help you live a happier life. The author takes the reader through the life journey of Julian Mantle. Julian is a high-profile attorney whose goals are focused on attaining money, power and prestige. But when Mantle suddenly gets a heart attack, he drops out of the game and rediscovers his purpose in life.

#5Takeaway: Mantle’s journey teaches him invaluable life lessons and habits that eventually transforms his life. The habits explained in this book are life-changing yet practical to follow. The book makes the reader re-think his/her goals in life to live a happier and fulfilling life.
